The Great Debate: Monetize or Mellow Out?

Let’s talk about something that’s been on my mind: the balance between monetizing our passions and simply enjoying life in the moment. It’s a tricky dance, isn’t it? On one side, we have the relentless pursuit of turning our hobbies into side hustles. On the other, the sweet, fleeting joy of just doing what we love without any strings attached.

I mean, it’s hard not to feel the pressure when you scroll through social media and see people transforming their interests into thriving businesses. One moment they’re baking artisanal bread; the next, they’re showcasing their latest line of products or haul unboxing.

It’s impressive, sure, but it also makes you wonder: why aren’t I cashing in on my latest fall obsession or my knack for vintage thrift finds?

But let’s take a step back. There’s something to be said for the pure pleasure of a hobby—those blissful hours spent gardening, post yoga glow, or even just lounging with a good book or Netflix’s Emily in Paris binge. These moments remind us of why we started doing what we love in the first place. They’re not tied to profit margins or brand deals; they’re simply about finding joy in the act itself.

So, how do we navigate this dilemma? On one hand, there’s the allure of monetization, the idea that you could turn your passion into something profitable. And on the other, there’s the beauty of living in the moment, of enjoying our interests without the pressure of making them marketable.

What if we could find a way to embrace both? Imagine dedicating a weekend to a creative project just for the sake of it, with no expectations attached. You might discover something new about yourself, or even find that others are drawn to your work—not because you set out to sell it, but because it genuinely resonates with them.

The key is to strike a balance.

Pursue your passions with an open heart, and allow yourself to revel in the experience. Yes, you can dream about turning that passion into a side hustle, but don’t let that overshadow the joy of simply creating or exploring. That’s what I’ve done with my little space here on A Monday Minute.

At the end of the day, it’s about finding what works for you. Maybe it’s about creating for pleasure first and letting the monetization happen organically. Or perhaps it’s choosing to focus on enjoyment, free from the pressure of making a profit. Both paths can coexist beautifully.

Let’s prioritize what truly matters—savoring the process, enjoying the little things, and staying true to ourselves. Because whether we’re hustling or simply having fun, it’s the moments that make the journey worthwhile.
